We Won't Quit
Every day thousands of Americans are forced to suffer humiliation and abuse at the hands of federal agents. Former Congressman and current Liberty Guard Chairman, Bob Barr, said recently about invasive and illegal TSA search procedures, "If there is a better example of how the government does not give a darn about the Fourth Amendment…I'd like to hear it."
So would we. That's why Liberty Guard has submitted a number of important FOIA requests to both the TSA and DHS. So far, though, their responses have ranged from legal stonewalling to total silence.
Clearly these rogue bureaucracies want Liberty Guard and our supporters to give up and go away empty-handed, but we won't quit. Ever since we made our first FOIA request last November, this fight for truth has been Liberty Guard's top priority.
Back then we wanted to know whether TSA screeners were instructed to compromise security procedures for political reasons on National Opt-Out Day. Sure enough, the TSA admitted in January that internal communications pertaining to the protest do exist, but refused to hand them over. We are appealing that decision, and, should it be necessary, Liberty Guard is also preparing to fight for those documents in court.
In the meantime, however, we have continued to submit new FOIA requests. Two more recently went to the TSA for information on their "Screening Partnership Program," and a third went to the DHS for all Administrative Directives pertaining to the launch of their "See Something, Say Something" campaign in hundreds of Wal-Marts nationwide.
As yet we have received no substantive responses to those requests, but, if the TSA and DHS think they can ignore us forever, they have badly underestimated the commitment of Liberty Guard and our supporters.
We will soon publish copies of our entire FOIA correspondence with the TSA and DHS on our website at LibertyGuard.org. When they go up, anyone can read exactly what information we have requested on behalf of our supporters and exactly what the government's response (or lack thereof) has been to date.
We look forward to continuing this fight together with our faithful supporters. If you have not done so recently, please consider making a generous donation to Liberty Guard today.
